First day in Trinidad
It was a full day of activities for our students while in Trinidad. We started the day at the University of West Indies (UWI) where our students collaboratively ran a social justice roundtable discussion between UofL and UWI students, staff, and faculty that worked to build understanding and improved engagement to students.
From there we met with UWI students to establish and engage in community service at a new community service site for UWI. Our UofL students worked collaboratively with the UWI students at the St. Mary’s Orphanage to read books and engage with sport activities with the youth. This experience was a favorite of the day for our UofL students and faculty as we played futbol and worked to enhance reading skills. The evening consisted of attending a private lecture from Ms. Valerie Taylor who serves as the CEO at the National Trust of Trinidad and Tobago and is renowned for her experience in administration and management of schools. Ms. Taylor provided an overview of the history and culture of Trinidad, with an emphasis on the contributions of the various cultures that comprise the diverse population of Trinidad and Tobago.
